"Morris Minor 1000" sedan. Named "Champagne" after the original paint, "Champagne Ivory" which she still has, resprayed as part of her restoration. A complete mechanical refurbishment, with all points of the car attended to, engine, gearbox, clutch, differential, suspension, steering, brakes, rubbers, electrics and on and on and on.... Battery is new and she always starts easily. The car " m i g h t " have done 5000 klms since being refurbished in sixteen years of ownership, with only ten of those years on the road. She's a nice opportunity for the Morris Minor enthusiast to own a good example of the car. Current registration expires in May 2016. The engine was disassembled, cleaned and inspected. The bores were near new, being chrome liners and the pistons in good condition too. The bore dimensions were standard with the greatest wear being 0.0015" oval on one liner. All bores were honed to redeem finish and concentricity. New rings were fitted. The crankshaft was found with mild scoring and standard journal sizes, so was ground to -0.010" all over with new big end and main bearing shells fitted to suit. A new oil pump followed and the engine went together, with a top overhaul included. A new water pump was also included in the work. The original SU Carburettor was in excellent order and received service which included cleaning, polishing and honing of components. The gearbox came apart and was found good throughout and so, after cleaning and further inspection, was fitted with new syncro cones, bearings and seals throughout. All components of the clutch were replaced with new items, including release pad. Hydraulic slave and master cylinders were honed and fitted with new seals, although, as with the brake cylinders, were found in good condition. The rear axle was removed and the differential disassembled, cleaned and inspected. Found in good condition, so new bearings and seals were fitted. Brakes all round were totally stripped and the bores of master cylinder and wheel cylinders honed, although in good condition. New rubbers were fitted all round. Brake drums were skimmed and new linings fitted. The brakes work extremely well. The beautiful original brass caged wheel bearings were replaced with modern day items, although it seemed a shame to do so. Starter motor and generator were both found good but full of carbon dust from wearing brushes. The commutators were skimmed and undercut, both items were put together with new bushes and bearings. The SU fuel pump was serviced, even though there is little to be expected from performing such a simple task. The pump chamber had some debris therein but the valve plates were in excellent order. The contact points good and all other parts were also in good order. Electrics of the vehicle were in good order and remain so with minimal work. Rear springs were removed and sent off for resetting, refitted to the vehicle with new bushes all round. Front suspension and steering components were removed, cleaned, serviced and painted, refitted with new bushes, seals and bearings. The steering rack was overhauled and repacked with grease. Interior of the car is original with upholstery in good condition. The front seats have been replaced with modern, adjustable seats and fitted with sheepskin covers, to give comfort on long runs, such as the trips to Hobart or Port Macquarie for the Morris Minor Car Club Nationals. The original seats have been kept in storage. All rubbers are new around doors and windows. The carpet is new also. The car continues to receive periodic care to keep it in good and reliable condition, regular servicing being at the centre of reliable motoring with classics such as this car.
All rust has been cut out and plated, full respray. shackle bush rubbers and steering and control arm rubbers new, brake drums machined and new brake shoes, slave cylinders and mater cylinder. Original engine recoed, new upholstery fitted, new tyres and new muffler. This ute is rare and all original long term project will negotiate to sell. I have lots of spares to sweeten the deal.
Low Lite Series I tourer, original engine, professionally serviced regularly, the car was completely restored between 1994 and 1996, has always been garaged, immaculate paintwork, soft top, curtains, interior engine bay, radio, tape player, clock and manual included.
Very good original condition and regretful sale, but it has to go. I bought this car in 2007 off a lady who bought it from the first owner in 1984 and I have all original books and manuals and service and repair receipts. I was going to enter the Variety club bash in it but when I realised exactly the modifications needed I changed my mind and the car has sat under a cover in the garage ever since.
