If you are reading this add you are half way there to owning an Italian classic, here’s a bit of history on this remarkable model which was truly a significant game changer for the Ducati marque. The introduction of the 851 in 1987 instantly recreated Ducati's image and amazed testers with the power of its engine. Constant improvements made it the premier 4-stroke bike of its time, demonstrating not just the styling of the Ducati brand, but its tremendous technical expertise as well. Based upon the 1978 Pantah bottom end, the design was the first real modern day Ducati Superbike and successfully bridged the gap until the arrival of the 916 some seven years later. The Ducati design team refused to succumb to the onslaught of the Japanese aluminum beam frames and to this day a real Ducati has to sport a steel trellis frame before it can truly wear the badge. The idea is a sound one however and those spindly looking tubes are arranged in such a way as to provide immense strength while weighing in way less than the equivalent alloy chassis, holding the plot straight and true while the top quality suspension at each end dampen out the road irregularities famously. The lazy engine sound is deceptive, as beneath you is a ready and willing power plant, the throttle response is better than the best normally aspirated machine from the period and for a while after it too, the close cooperation between Ducati and the nearby Weber-Marelli factory paying off nicely producing smoothest injection system to date. The big Duke just lifts its skirt and takes off, leaving you struggling to hold on to the galloping red stallion. This particular model is fitted from the factory with the last of the traditional Marzocchi Suspension . A few minor scratches. Paint has never been touched up. This is my very rare Ducati 996R. Only 40 where delivered here in Australia, and only 400 where built to meet the Homologation rules for the 2001 WBSK season that Troy Baylis and Ruben Xaus competed in. This bike was originally from Germany, and was imported into Australia buy a Dealer in Melbourne. Im the first owner in Australia. Iv had Ducati Italia (have email paperwork) confirm that its a genuine 996R and had 1 owner from new before exported. The bike has heaps of carbon fibre. All standard carbon fibre and extras. When I got the bike it had no service history with the bike. So I have dune all work needed to it to make sure it was all good to go. What has been dune to the bike thus far: 1.Cam Belts. 2.Valve adjustments, New harder shims put into the bike (both cylinders) have paperwork of what size shims went in, and images of the process. 3.New fork seals and dust covers. 4.Fuel filter. 5.Air filter. 6.Fuel pump. 7.Tapered steering bearings on the front end. 8.Upgraded the fuel Quick Disconnect fuel connectors and lines. 9.New chain and sprockets. 10.New fluids all round. 11.New battery. 12.Spark plugs 13.New STM slipper clutch basket, plates and steels When I got the bike, I striped all the fairing off and noticed that it has been over on its left side. Only damage is the carbon fiber. It had been fixed. Not a bad job considering the carbon fiber are not replacable. I dont think it went down hard as its a small fix, So i think it just fell over. The risk I took buying the bike. The rear tail unit also had a scrtch while in transit. I had that fixed and had all the fairings relaquered. Nose cone, left and right fairings, air box, belly pan and rear tail unit. I do have the standard exhaust for it as well if you need it RWC. So the bike is in mint condition and has allot dune to it. No low ball offers please. And no test rides unless you have the full amount $ in your hand. No RWC on it but can do it but it depends on how much i'm offered.
The Limited Edition Laguna Seca is one of the most collectible Ducatis of the 1980s. The 750 F1 is the last design of Taglioni's illustrious career and represents the pinnacle of his achievements. The last Laguna Seca to sell at auction was over 2 years ago and it sold for AUD$45,000. (Search "AthleticRoman" on Facebook for details.
